Body
Life
You find the principle
of Body Life in the New Testament. It’s
a term for those of us who have tried to mobilize people for ministry
and also to insure that the Body of Christ is functioning with
the Life.
The scriptural principle for Body Life is largely rooted in I
Corinthians 12. There, Paul uses the illustration
of the human body. He shows how all the body parts are interrelated
and dependent upon one another. Three principles that surface
are:
1. Unity
2. Individuality
3. Dependency
The Genesis ministry model developed from those three areas. In
other words, we are all one, yet we are individuals within the
oneness. We are all dependent upon one another. Everything that
we have tried to do in terms of building a ministry has been to
promote unity and also to help individuals express their individuality
according to their giftedness and the ability God has given them.
In Body Life all of us are needed; all of us must function. All
of us have God-given ability to function. The question is finding
where I function and then doing it to the best I can to the glory
of God.
One of the phrases that
comes very clear to us throughout the New Testament is the phrase “one another.” Over 75
times throughout the New Testament God is referring to something
about “one another”: “Bear ye one another’s
burdens, lie not one another.” We’ve got to be one-another
people. We are the church with the one-another mind set. They had
all things in common. They broke bread together. They were always
together. There was unity, individuality, and the dependency all
flowing out of the one-another mind set.
